The very first celebrity height measure was made of plastic and aluminium. It features a sliding mechanism which also holds a marker pen. A card version was soon developed, as it is more cost effective to produce and distribute. The illustration of the first card version was based upon the ornate style of decoration found in neoclassical architecture and ceramics. The design of all subsequent charts has been inspired by the style of illustration found in documents published by HMSO from 1930 - 1950.
